Punakha Tshechu Festival:

The main feature of Tshechu Festival Tour is to experience the spectacular Tshechu ‘festival’ celebrated at the grounds of the towering Dzong. It’s said that Guru Rinpoche, a saint, brought Buddhism to Bhutan and the tshechu ‘festival’ is to honor Guru Rinpoche. The festival consists of typical masked dances which are very colorful and interesting with the events and enactments being different each day. Locals gather in the spirit of festivity, celebration and with deep faith to witness the festival.

Tshechu Festival is celebrated all over the country in every dzongkhag of Bhutan on the tenth day of a month of the Lunar Tibetan Calendar. Tshechu is one of the biggest festivals of Bhutan and is celebrated and enjoyed by an abundant number of participants and audiences. Tshechus are religious festivals of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival Paro (2,250m) – Thimphu (2,250m)

Your Punakha Tshechu Festival Tour begins with the flight into Paro on our national carrier, Druk Air, is a befitting introduction to the spectacular beauty of our country. In clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest peaks give way to the lush green Paro valley as you land. The first gift from Bhutan will be the cool, clean fresh air as you step out of the plane. After clearing customs and visa control you are met by your guide and transferred to your hotel to settle in. Your Bhutanese escort will greet you on arrival, and then drive you the short distance to the hotel. Paro is a picturesque valley with quaint clusters of hamlets amid terraced paddy fields. Although the site of the nation’s first airport Paro still retains tradition by way of architecture and farming.

After lunch depart to Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan. The drive will take around 1½ hour. Thimphu has a population of about 98,000. The town is made up of just three lines of shops and is the only capital in the world without traffic lights. In the evening visit the Handicrafts Emporium, which has all types of Bhutanese handicrafts for sale. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Thimphu-Punakha (1,310m)

After breakfast, we drive for about 3 hours to Punakha, then climb up the mountain road to Dochula La at 3140m and view the spectacular sight of the Eastern Himalayas. Later we descend through varied forest and finally witness the highly cultivated valley of Punakha

Punakha Festival held at Punakha Dzong followed by various mask dances and folk dancers along with joker’s actions in the crown Punakha Drubchen Is A Unique Festival Because It Hosts A Dramatic Recreation Of The Scene from The 17th century Battle With Tibetan Army. The ‘pazaps’ or Local Militia Men, Dress In Traditional Battle Gear And Reenact The Ancient Battle Scene. This Reenactment Harkens Back To The Time When In The Absence Of A Standing Army, Men From The Eight Tshogchens or Great Village Blocks Of Thimphu came Forward And Managed To Expel the invading forces From The Country. Their Victory Ushered In A Period Of Newfound Internal Peace And Stability. Overnight at hotel in Punakha.

Day 03: Punakha – Paro (2250m) 4hrs drive 125km

Drive to Paro via Thimphu visiting Biggest Buddha in the world and after lunch at Thimphu; continue your journey towards Paro.

Ta Dzong: crown 1656 as a watchtower for Rinpung Dzong is now used as the National Museum which is a repository of not only precious works of art but also costumes, Amour and other handcrafted objects of daily life that provide a good snapshot of the rich cultural traditions of the country. It opens 7 days a week except on National Holidays. Rinpung Dzong: Built-in 1646 by Lama Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and strategically located to thwart Tibetan incursions into the rest of the country, this Dzong became one of Bhutan’s strongest and most important fortresses.

Day 04: Hike Paro – Taktsang Monastery (3200m) 3-4 hrs hike

Today we drive for the base camp of Taktsang and start the hike to the Taktsang Monastery ‘Tiger’s Nest’ which takes about 2 hours and offers the spectacular view of the monastery. After enjoying some memorable time here, later we hike back to the road and drive towards the Drukgyel Dzong, the ruined fort and also visit the local farmhouse at Drukgyel to witness the daily life of the Bhutanese people. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05: Departure

So after breakfast, your representative will help you with the exit formalities and bid you farewell and wish you a happy journey back home.
